In a landmark announcement, GHG Protocol has launched its groundbreaking Land Sector and Removals (LSR) Standard<\/a>, establishing the first global framework for corporate accounting of agricultural emissions and CO\u2082 removals. Taking effect January 2027, this standard fills a critical gap for the agriculture sector, which accounts for approximately 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the GHG Protocol release, the new LSR Standard enables companies to account for greenhouse gas emissions and CO\u2082 removals from agricultural land use and emerging CO\u2082 removal technologies, such as direct air capture and fossil carbon capture with geologic storage. Notably, the LSR Standard is the first GHG Protocol standard to include traceability requirements for Scope 3 emissions, enabling land sector companies to engage suppliers in reducing emissions and scaling up removals while providing flexibility based on available product sourcing information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
