Job Description

The Environmental Assessment Specialist will play a vital role in preparing, reviewing, and leading environmental studies for projects across multiple sectors. This individual will ensure compliance with Saudi Arabia’s NCEC, MEWA, and MWAN guidelines, as well as international best practices. The role also involves conducting impact assessments, engaging with stakeholders, and contributing to business development by identifying new opportunities and fostering client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA), and Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for industrial, infrastructure, and development projects.
  • Ensure compliance with National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC), Ministry of Environment, Water & Agriculture (MEWA), and National Waste Management Center (MWAN) requirements.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications, environmental management plans (EMPs), and environmental monitoring reports.
  • Conduct baseline studies, site inspections, field surveys, and stakeholder consultations as part of the assessment process.
  • Identify and evaluate environmental risks, recommending mitigation measures aligned with Saudi and international standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles).
  • Develop and implement environmental monitoring programs, covering air, water, noise, soil, and biodiversity.
  • Provide technical expertise in waste management planning, hazardous materials handling, and circular economy strategies.
  • Engage with regulators, clients, and local communities to ensure transparent and compliant environmental practices.
  • Support business development by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, building client relationships, and aligning services with Vision 2030 goals.

 

Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, the candidate must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in Environmental Assessment, ISO 14001, or equivalent.
  • Proven knowledge of Saudi environmental laws, including NCEC permitting frameworks, MEWA water regulations, and MWAN waste management requirements.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in environmental assessments and compliance in Saudi Arabia.
  • Strong technical writing and regulatory reporting skills.
  • Experience with GIS tools, environmental modeling software, and environmental monitoring technologies preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in project management, problem-solving, decision-making, and client management.
  • Proven experience in client engagement, proposal preparation, or business development in environmental consulting is a plus.
  • Strong English communication skills are mandatory; Arabic proficiency is preferred for stakeholder engagement.
